Mr. Misko, Director of Bands

Mike Misko is the new Director of Bands at Alamo Heights High School. Mr. Misko has been teaching since 2009, when he started as the assistant band director at Southside High School. Mr. Misko took over as head band director in 2015. Under his direction, the band members have enjoyed continued success, including numerous 1st division ratings in UIL marching, concert, and sight reading contests, numerous first division ratings and state qualifiers in solo and ensemble contests, and a high level of success in the all-state audition process.
Mr. Misko has a Bachelor's degree in music education from Miami University and a Master's degree in music education from Texas State University. In his free time, he enjoys spending time with his wife and dog, traveling, camping, and cheering for the (perpetually disappointing) Cleveland Browns.

Mr. Chester, Assistant Band Director

Troy Chester graduated from Texas Tech University with a bachelor’s of music degree in December 2020, and has been serving as the assistant director of bands at Plains ISD before joining the staff at Alamo Heights. While at Texas Tech, Mr. Chester was an active member of many prestigious ensembles, including the Goin’ Band from Raiderland, Symphonic Wind Ensemble, Percussion Ensemble 1, and Texas Tech’s steel band “Apocalypso Now!”. As a performer, he was a member of many ensembles that performed at conventions and competitions such as the Tournament of Roses Parade in 2015, Performance of Record Series in Carnegie Hall, College Band Directors National Association in Houston, National Conference of Percussion Pedagogy, Midwest Convention in Chicago, and was named runner-up in Texas Tech’s solo concerto competition in 2019. Mr. Chester is a member of Texas Music Educators Association, Percussive Arts Society, and Texas Bandmasters Association.
Outside of school, he enjoys spending time with his wife Madison, and their three dogs: Leia, Luna, and Remus.

Mr. Matt Moreno, Assistant Band Director
Matt Moreno is an assistant band director and beginning Euphonium teacher at Alamo Heights High School. Mr. Moreno is a San Antonio native and graduate of the University of Texas at San Antonio with a Bachelor of Music in Music Studies. While at UTSA, Mr. Moreno participated in the Wind Ensemble, Tuba-Euphonium Choir, Concert Choir, UTSA Indoor Drumline and the Spirit of San Antonio Marching Band. Mr. Moreno is a member of the Texas Music Educators Association, Texas Bandmasters Association and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia.

Alamo Heights Junior School
Mr. Mark Wolocki, Director of Bands

Mark Wolocki is the new Director of Bands at the Alamo Heights Junior School. He will be the primary instructor of the Varsity Ensemble, assist with the Non-Varsity ensembles, and teach beginning woodwind classes.
Before coming to Alamo Heights, Mr. Wolocki taught in Northside ISD where in 2021 he helped open Joe Straus Middle School. While at Straus he taught the non-varsity ensembles, assisted with the varsity ensemble, and taught woodwind beginners. Since Straus opened, the program has doubled in size and has consistently earned UIL sweepstakes with all ensembles. He also taught at Brennan High School, teaching the non-varsity concert ensembles, assisting with the varsity Wind Ensemble, and team teaching the award winning Bear Marching Band. Mr. Wolocki also taught in San Antonio ISD and West Orange-Cove ISD.
Mr. Wolocki earned a Masters in Clarinet Performance from Louisiana State University in 2010, studying with Robert DiLutis. He also holds a Bachelor's Degree from Ithaca College in Music Education and Clarinet, where he studied with Michael Galvan.
Mr. Wolocki resides in San Antonio, Texas and enjoys spending time with his wife Ella and their two children.

Mrs. Jennifer Cowart, Assistant Band Director

Mrs. Cowart is very excited to join the Alamo Heights band team. She originally hails from Atlanta, Georgia and received her bachelor’s degree in Music Education from Furman University in Greenville, South Carolina. She then attended the Yale School of Music and graduated with a Masters degree in trumpet performance. She has over 13 years of experience in music classrooms in Georgia and Texas as a middle school band director and elementary music specialist.
Mrs. Cowart and her husband, Corey, are very happy that they decided to settle in Alamo Heights when they moved to San Antonio more than 5 years ago. Their daughters, Abi and Eme, are proud members of the JS and HS band programs and their son, Corey Jr., is in the strings program at Woodridge. They share their home with their best buddy: Wembley the golden retriever.
Jennifer is honored to join the Alamo Heights ISD community and looks forward to making music with the incredible students and staff at AHJS.
