Private Lessons

Why We Encourage Private Lessons

Musically, private lessons help students fine-tune their technique, deepen their understanding of their instrument, and prepare for advanced opportunities such as Region Band, Solo and Ensemble, and the TMEA All-State process. Private lessons benefit students at any musical level.

Private lessons provide far more than just musical improvement. For high school band students, one-on-one instruction with a professional musician helps build the habits and mindset needed for success in all areas of life.

In private lessons, students learn how to set goals, manage their time, and take personal responsibility for their growth. They receive individualized feedback and are challenged to think critically and stay motivated over time. These skills promote confidence, discipline, and perseverance, which are essential in academics, leadership, and future careers. Students who take private lessons often become more self-directed and learn how to work through challenges with purpose and consistency. These qualities extend far beyond the band hall and support personal development in meaningful ways.

Scheduling and Enrollment

High school students typically take one 30-60 minute lesson each week. Lessons can be scheduled before school, during band class, or after school, depending on instructor availability. Lessons may be on campus or at the instructor’s studio. The typical cost is between $25 and $35 per half hour, depending on the teacher’s background and experience.

Students may enroll at any point during the school year. However, registering early increases the chances of getting preferred scheduling options.

All lesson teachers are experienced musicians and educators who have been carefully selected for both their musical ability and their positive approach to teaching. The list below are teachers recommended by the AHHS band directors.

Please reach out first to Mr. Moreno or Mr. Misko and then to the teacher on your student’s instrument directly to inquire about scheduling, cost, etc. If you need additional options or have questions, please contact one of the AHHS band directors.
